POTTER & CO SCRANTON PA, 2 15/16 in. to lid with 1 5/8 in. base dia, twisted wire boot kick and heat shield between font and spout, unfired condition with wick; acquired from James Proctor [Leland Barker Potter was born in 1833, the oldest of three children born to Alvan and Mary Barker Potter of Otsego township, NY. Sometime between 1850 and 1855 Leland moved to Scranton, PA. He married Helen Finch in 1856 and fathered several children including Harriet, Walter and Helen. Leland’s occupation is listed in the 1860 census as a tinsmith, carrying on the profession of his father who died in 1863. Sometime after his father’s death, Leland started the L. B. Potter Mine Supply Company, a wholesale business dealing in mine, mill, railroad supply and safety equipment. He operated this business until his death in 1896.]
